Panjab University (PU) National Law Fest “Arguendo-Conquer to Concur” commenced today at the University Institute of Legal Studies (UILS), PU. As many as 20 Law Institute teams from various parts of the country are participating in the three days PU Law Fest, which would conclude on March 28, 2015. Events like Client Counseling, Trial Advocacy and Literary Events would be conducted in the Law Fest. The Literary Events will comprise of four other events which are – Essay Writing, Spell Bee, Ad Mad and Debate. The inaugural function was peppered up by a contemporary dance and a Bhangra performance by the students of UILS, PU. Former Judge, Supreme Court of India and Ex-Chairman, National Consumer Commission Mr. Justice Ashok Bhan inaugurated the Law Fest at PU Law Auditorium. Dean, Faculty of Laws Mr. G.K. Chatrath, Director, Chandigarh Judicial Academy, Prof. Veer Singh, Emeritus Professor, Panjab University, Prof. V.K. Bansal and PU Dean Students Welfare, Prof. Navdeep Goyal were the Guests of Honor. The law students of this University have been requesting to hold such function as these functions provide the students the facility to learn and prepare them for discharging their duties and function in a holistic manner. Inaugurating the function, Former Mr. Justice Ashok Bhan apprised the students about the lawyering skills and stressed upon the importance of honesty and efficiency in the work. His thrust was that a lawyer should keep on working hard to achieve in-depth knowledge of legal field and in particular a case in hand that would make them self-reliant and in turn make the seniors depend on their skills. Further he pointed out the importance of honesty in a lawyer that would eventually make him an impartial and honest judge. Further, he congratulated UILS for the momentous effort put in by the faculty and students of UILS. Earlier, Director UILS, Prof. Sangita Bhalla welcomed the Chief Guest and other legal luminaries and advocated that the spirit of competition must be kept up by all the participants, while welcoming them to Panjab University In his address, Prof. V.K. Bansal congratulated the UILS for organizing such a large event exhorted them to hold an academic law fest at International level. Prof. Veer Singh acquainted the students about the practical implications of organizing such events. Prof. Navdeep Goyal thanked the galaxy of legal luminaries for sparing their valuable time from their hectic schedules for being a part of this inaugural function. On the first day, the preliminary rounds of the UILS National Debate Competition, Preliminary rounds of the UILS National Client Counseling Competition, Spell Bee and UILS National Trial Advocacy Moot Court Competition were conducted today. The enthusiasm of the students has its source in motivation provided by the faculty members and it was evident from their gleaming faces. The events of Essay Writing Competition, Semi-Final rounds of the National Trial Advocacy followed by Finals of the UILS National Debate competition, Semi-final rounds of the UILS National Client Counseling Competition and Ad Mad Show would be conducted on March 27. { Conferences/Seminar/Lecture} |
