Under the project “Bio-Indhan”, the ENACTUS, Dr. SS Bhatnagar University Institute of Chemical Engineering & Technology (UICET), Panjab University (PU) today organised a Mass Awareness Camp on “Benefits of Family Type Biogas Plants”. The day long camp was organised in collaboration with Punjab Energy Development Agency (PEDA) at Kasauli Village Block Kharar, District S.A.S Nagar. With fast depleting forest reserves, pressure on whatever remains is ever increasing, as even now wood is primarily used for fuel purpose, either in domestic cooking or for heating in rural areas. Realizing the need for immediate intervention to avert the future fuel crises, ENACTUS has taken up the project “Bio-Indhan”. Under the project, Enactus team is working with the rural community to discourage the use of wood and cattle dung as fuel, as told by project leader Shubham Gaba. Instead, the team is emphasizing the need for installing family type biogas plants, not only to provide fuel gas which is fume less ash less but also gives digested dung slurry which is a very effective organic fertilizer. The awareness camp was held under supervision of Senior Manager, PEDA, Er. H.S Sandhu, and able guidance of Enactus Faculty Advisor Prof Seema Kapoor, so as to percolate to the masses the benefits of biogas plants. People from Kasauli village as well as neighbouring villages actively participated in this programme. For stimulating awareness amongst people, PEDA, Mr S. K. Goyal delivered a lecture emphasizing on the importance of biogas plants, so that more and more families come forward for installing family type biogas plants in their houses. Enactus team President, Aviral Seli acknowledges the financial assistance provided by PEDA for conducting this camp. As such, PEDA has been running Mass Awareness and Publicity programmes in a big way; our team is working hand in glove with PEDA for this righteous cause, as mentioned by member of business advisory board, Gaurav Gupta. { Events} |
