Panjab University Alumni Association (PUAA) today honoured 64 PU achievers and toppers at the PUAA Scholarship Award Function 2015. PU Vice Chancellor, Prof Arun Kumar Grover honoured the 2013-14 year topper students of from PU affiliated colleges and University teaching Departments at the twelfth award function of PUAA. The students were awarded out of ‘Alumni House and Scholarship Fund Fee’ for the year 2013-14. As many as 28 students were from affiliated Colleges of PU and 36 were from University Departments. The toppers from various courses were honoured with a scholarship of Rs. 7,000/- along with a Certificate of Merit and Trophy for Academic Excellence. All the graduate and post-graduate toppers were also conferred with the honorary life membership of PUAA by incurring expenditure of Rs.1000/- for each from PUAA funds. PUAA also awarded stipends to the deserving students on need-cum-merit basis out of the endowment funds at hand. 15 students were awarded stipends ranging between Rs. 3400/- and Rs. 25,000/-per annum out of the interest accrued on the Endowment funds at hand and as per the instructions of the sponsors. Two male and two female sportspersons were also awarded stipends for excelling in the field of sports during the current academic year. In his address, PU Vice Chancellor and President of PUAA, Prof Arun Kumar Grover congratulated the recipients of scholarships and wished them a bright academic and professional future. He called upon the PU Alumni to undertake more active and supportive role for the University. He said that the Alumni Association is kind of a regulatory body for any good University and shared his long term and short term vision for the alumni association. Referring to the Rupees 150 crore corpus of IIM Ahmadabad, Resident Editor, Times of India, Mr Robin David said that the Alumni can play a vital role for their University. Dean Alumni Relations, Prof Anil Monga informed that the scholarship Award Function was started in the year 2003 and 31 scholarships were given to the topper students of that year. The same have been increased to 64 students this year and the students have been awarded out of ‘Alumni House and Scholarship Fund Fee’, he added. Vice-President PUAA, Shri. S.C. Kohli, Joint-Secretary-cum-Treasurer PUAA, Prof Pawan Kamra, former Deans, members of the Executive Council, Patron members and all members of PUAA, invited guests, students also attended the function. { Awards/Honours, General} |
