On eve of World Environmental Day, Enactus Dr. S.S Bhatnagar UICET, Panjab University (PU), Chandigarh today launched its project “Amal-Vari” at PU, Chandigarh. The project Amal-Vari envisions empowering the society with clean & affordable drinking water solution. Enactus is a team of 110 students of Dr. S.S Bhatnagar UICET, Panjab University, Chandigarh working under the leadership of Enactus Faculty Advisor ‘Prof. Seema Kapoor’. PU Dean University Instructions Prof. A.K. Bhandari presided over the launch ceremony of Amal-Vari project and applauded the efforts of Enactus team and Faculty Advisor, Prof. Kapoor for working to empower people to transform opportunities into real, sustainable progress for themselves and their communities. The project Amal-Vari envisions empowering the society with clean & affordable drinking water solution, by low cost clay water filters. They not only cool the water down but also provide healing with the elements of earth. Also, as the body of filter is made of clay, it leads to zero waste production, therefore reducing environmental pollution otherwise caused by plastic bottles. The filter tube contains activated carbon, whose extensive pore structure enables it to screen every drop of water passing through it. As conveyed by Mr. Gaurav Gupta, there are myriad of benefits of using activated carbon filtration: it effectively reduces certain organic compounds and chlorine in drinking water and it also reduces the harmless taste- and odour-causing compounds. This project aims to benefit two target communities: Potters community which is facing the wrath of modernization & poor communities which have to bear the drudgery of sustaining on unclean water in disguise. In order to promote and sustain this art, the Enactus team will be creating ‘Waterpreneurs (Water + entrepreneurs)’ out of these potters. Enactus team president, Aviral Seli acknowledged the Enactus Unilever Special Competition grant for project "Amal-Vari” by Enactus India. Director, UIAMS Prof. Sanjeev Sharma and Director Public Relations Mr. Vineet Punia were the guest of honour. They also appreciated the efforts of the Enactus team in making under privileged communities self-sustainable. Others present were Dr. Gaurav Gaur from Centre for Social Work and faculty members of Dr. SSB University Institute of Chemical Engineering (UICET). { Conferences/Seminar/Lecture, Students} |
