Hotel, tourism academics - industry workshop at PU

 

The Student Academic Committee of University Institute of Hotel Management and Tourism (UIHMT) organised a workshop on “Academics – Industry
Interface” on the Panjab University campus here today.   The programme included specialized deliberations on various aspects of hotel and tourism industry in which students of B.Sc. Hospitality and Hotel Administration and Tourism Management programmes participated.

Mr Ashish Nikunj, Chef, International Cruise Liners; Dr Rajiv Kumar, Manager – Human Resource, Hotel Taj Chandigarh and Mr Vikas Nagwani – Manager Learning and Development, Hotel Taj Chandigarh were the key speakers.

Prof Lalit K. Bansal, Director-Incharge UIHMT, highlighted the importance of such interactions with the industry, since UIHMT is running professional
programes.  “Tourism and Hospitality industries are people oriented industries and hence there is a need of specific skill development, he added.

Mr Ashish Nikunj, through his presentation on ‘future food’ expressed his thoughts on the latest trends in food production.  He also shared his international cruise lines experience with the students.  

Mr Vikas Nagwani, through his highly motivating interactions, tried to inspire students to be all time ready for learning since it is a lifelong process.  He also insisted on high moral ethics and explained the role of ethics in corporate world.

Dr Rajiv Kumar shared the vision of TATA group with the students.  He also informed students to get ready for future interactions with Taj group, since they would be increasing their manpower by 60% in three years.  He advised students to focus on a better career in the industry.

At this occasion Mr Anish Slath, Mr Arun Singh Thakur, Mr Himanshu Malik, Mr Jaswinder Singh and Dr Prashant Gautam (UIHMT Faculty Members) also shared their thoughts on the ‘Academics and Industry Interface’, informed Prof Lalit K. Bansal, Director- Incharge UIHMT.
