Panjab University (PU), Chandigarh Vice Chancellor (VC), Prof. Arun Kumar Grover wishes to put on record the background of an avoidable and contentious debate on the competition between PU and DU set in motion via an implied quote attributed to him from out of context remarks made by him during a telephonic conversation with a correspondent of a Chandigarh based national daily. The following verbatim exchange of SMS between VC, PU and the reporter conveys the factual position.

SMS exchange on June 15, 2015-

SMS to Vice Chancellor after the conversation: “Sir,

Ifrah this side from express

Needed to confirm one of your quotes- u had said that if u being a parent, u wud have preferred DU for your child. I hope I am not wrong.. Regards (Had to quote you).”

REPLY to the reporter by VC: “I never said in the context you are stating.!”

REPLY by the reporter to PU VC: “Indeed Sir, it was just a general statement and you gave valid reasons for the same. It’s going to be a balanced story.

Regards”.

The anguish and disappointment caused to the aspiring students, parents, faculty and alumni of PU by the ongoing reports in the press is sincerely regretted.
