Department of Orthodontics at Dr Harvansh Singh Judge Institute of Dental Sciences and Hospital (HSJIDS), Sector 25 Panjab University (PU), Chandigarh today welcomed & celebrated the arrival of smile torch with much fan and fervor.  

The celebrations started with a cake cutting ceremony in the Dental Institute and a round of Smile torch in all the departments. The PU Dental Institute then organized a two km Smile Walk from Dental Institute to Student centre passing through market area and Administrative Block, in front of Vice Chancellor office, Gandhi Bhawan followed by flash mob at Student Centre.

The smile walk saw a huge response from onlookers as university admissions are on. The pamphlets on orthodontic education were distributed to generate awareness about braces.  The students and faculty of Dental Institute answered various questions on braces and orthodontics, which were posed by the various people amongst the huge gathering at student centre.

The Dental Institute aims to further spread Orthodontic awareness on July 16 through Lectures, Rangoli competition, Wire -O Mania, Orthodontic selfie smile contest,  Orthodontic smile fashion show etc. in the coming days.

As a part of its Golden Jubilee celebrations IOS had announced a national smile torch campaign to generate awareness about orthodontics at National level. This smile torch is being circulated throughout the length and breadth of the country. It had started its journey from Kolkata (49th IOS Conference in November 2014) and will complete its journey in Hyderabad (December 2015 at 50th IOS Conference).  It is travelling to 35 cities in India in a span of about 300 days. It has already travelled to 15 cities. The Chandigarh Orthodontic Study Group (COSG) is the 16th  host  for “IOS smile  torch. Smile torch will be in Chandigarh from 11th-20th July 2015. While in Chandigarh HSJIDS is celebrating smile torch on 13th and 16th July.
