The 60th Annual Convocation of Panjab  University will be
held on February 14 and the rehearsal for the same will be held in on February 13 at
11.00 am in the University Gymnasium.

    Mr Shivraj V. Patil, Governor of Punjab and Administrator Union
    Territory Chandigarh will address the Convocation.  

    The following eminent personalities will be honoured with     conferment of
    degrees of Doctor of Science/Literature/Laws (honoris causa) and Vigyan Ratna
at the Convocation: Professor Shenggen Fan, Director General, International     Food
Policy Research Institute, Washington, D.C. (USA) will be conferred upon the Doctor of
Science (D. Sc.); Professor C.N.R. Rao, National Research Professor and Honorary
President and Linus Pauling Research Professor, Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced
Scientific Research     (Bangalore) will be conferred upon the Doctor of Science (D.
Sc.) degree.  

    Eminent author and celebrated journalist, Khushwant Singh will be honoured
with conferment of the Doctor of Literature degree (honoris causa) for     his superb
contribution in the field of journalism.  Mr Singh will, however, be conferred upon
the degree on a date to be decided later in consultation with him, at a small function
to be organised at his residence at Delhi, keeping in view his very advanced age.  

    Mr Som Nath Chatterjee, former Speaker of     the Lok Sabha will be
conferred Doctor of Laws degree upon him.  While Prof. A.K. Sood of the department of
Physics, Indian Institute of Science (Bangalore), will conferred the     prestigious
Vigyan Rattan Award upon him.
