Panjab University (PU), Chandigarh has clarified that the University Authorities have no intention to initiate any step to remove any daily wage employee from the University services. However, it has been proposed that in future the provisions made in the budget head for outsourcing services and staff requirement for seasonal work have to be adhered to. Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India had given a directive to Panjab University (PU) for abolishing 370 non-teaching posts and recently during the fact finding committee proceedings, it was pointed out to the University to comply with the directions given by the MHRD, Government of India. The University is in process of carrying out a detailed man power audit. During the course of audit it stands revealed that certain number of staff at different levels were working in excess to the sanctioned strength. Informing the background of the recruitment, the PU Spokesman informed that the recruitment of daily wage staff had been made from time to time for seasonal examination/other works only. But after the completion of examination/seasonal work, they got transferred in the past to other departments and were absorbed as daily wages staff against the regular posts. The University has not made any regular appointments for clerks and Group C posts after Advertisement No.14/2008, and these were filled in 2013. Referring to the PU Non-Teaching Employees Federation demand of granting promotions, PU Spokesman categorically informed that no promotion of group A and B class employees have been denied by the administration for which the vacant positions exist in the PU Campus Chandigarh. If promotions are to be made against vacant positions at Regional Centres of PU outside Chandigarh, such promoted employees are expected to join only at such Centres. { Employees, General} |
